From south Mumbai ,leaving kapad na dhandha was a huge leap towards Fauji.
Walter and Aman , two young officers, groomed him in three months time with14kms of run , and sit ups and kicks, added by a swim of daily routine.His Mumbai friends were exited no end , with his stories of interveiw in Allahabad ,parties lined up before his departure to OTA , in Chinnai.
The year of training was grueling but Nawang kept his word and wrote letters to all , he would sneak out before 4a.m. and would give a call ,he missed all and above all missed food.Dada visited Chinnai often on work and came back with Nawang hogging down piles of chinese dishes and asking for more.......
The invitation for graduation ceremony said two from the family but like true Indian family
all went to attend.The graduation ceremony of young gentlemen cadets is in grand style .The dinner dress, with , tight broad band on the waist ,on the well fitting stiffly ironed uniform ,made the GC s look like modern day princes.The band played the music and the atmosphere was set for the dinner,
There were , the parents, families, friends of theGC , and they had come from all over the country, all in their traditional rich dresses, all with a proud smile .
The morning was the passing out parade , now theGC s were in their regimental finary , the Jats , The Sikhs, The Maratha, The Rajputs and the rest all represented the colours of their regiments.
They all march across a line which pronounces them to be officers ,Nawang as he came out said , 'Now, I belong to the Nation .You have no claim on me."He was most happy ,the smile spread over his face continued to be ON all the while.
His regiment was 4/3 Gorkha Rifles.This had been his life long dream to belong to Gorkhas .The valour of Gorkha was universally known .The brave Gorkha and his Khukri. He was ready in his uniform with the Gorkha hat with it's officer's ribbon on it .Ma did the pipping , and Lt,Nawang immerged to the beat of the drums and to the tunes of the bag pipes . There were cheers from all around . Abatch of young officers were ready to serve the Nation
