Varanasi , has the Gorakha Training Centre , the first visit of an officer to his Regmental Home.

Lt. Nawang learnt the finer points of being a officer here .His sahayak was ready for him , to teach him Gorkhali and Zumre dance, and  Major to teach him the ropes of his trade.Days were  about to get the chill as Navratra set in , Dasser was biggest festival of Gorakhas .The mid-night Khukri dance ends wth killing of a baffello with one stroke of Khukri .Lt.Nawang failed in first strike  second----and third it was done.

Mornings were now for training evenings for dance and Gurkhali learning .The battalion or Paltan  was to be coming to the peace posting at Almora . Paltan was at Rajouri the hub of militant activity ,after two years in action field all officers and Jawans were looking forward for peace posting .

Lt.Nawang reached Almora , from his room in Officer's Mess,he cld see the Himalayan peaks of Trisul and Panchachuli ,It was Diwali  New Year ,and it was the most beautiful sun-rise that woke up  Lt.Nawang to begin his army life.

The orders awaited him to proceed to Kashmir , on his way he stopped at Udhampur and paid a visit to Brig. Randhir , who was from Phor thud ,too. With his blessings , he went to Srinagar , where Capt.Abhay wel-comed him and took charge of him. Then it was onward travel to Kupwara to join the Paltan which had no respite from the terrorists in flow. On 10th Nov .2000., there was search and destroy operations, Lt. Nawang lead his platoon , with Chitra Bahadur , a large hideout and weapons were discovered , and the Platoon came under fire of a group of terrorist , Chitra Bahadur who was senior gt the burst in his stomach and fell down .At,this stage LT.Nawang instinctively rushed to rescue Chitra Bahadur under the covering fire of his comarades. It was in the thick jungles of foilage that they moved and cross fired killing two terrorist . One terrorist in  hiding aimed the fire at him, one single bullet hit him from the side jaw to the spine,Lt.Nawang died leading his troops in the highest tradition of valour and sacrifice. He lived up to the standard and honour of his Gorakha battalion .

Nawang means "leader of men ",

he was born to lead---------and lead hedid as Lt.in the legendery 4/3 Gorakha Rifles.

Kashmir today in 2007 is no different ,there are mor Nawangs , the list is endless this must change ,perhaps we all can help??????
